What components are required to support installation of TAP?
TAP Kiln Controllers require a compatible power outlet, controller housing, a relay, and a compatible thermocouple. Specific details for each are below...
To install a TAP Kiln Controller you will need, at minimum, a compatible power outlet, controller housing, a relay, and a compatible thermocouple.
If you are installing TAP to an existing kiln or oven, chances are you’ll already have the necessary components to support installation. TAP, TAP II, and TAP II Pro require a 24VAC power source. TAP Monitor, TAP Micro, or TAP&Go require a 5VDC power source (or 24VAC if you purchase an optional power adapter).
TAP II Standalones include housing, a power cord, and a type K thermocouple. They’re designed to be a plug-and-play solution for manual kilns or oven (when ordering a TAP II Standalone, make sure to order the plug type that’s compatible with your outlet!).
TAP Conversion Kits include controller faceplates and a wiring harness to match your existing automatic controller, making for a quick, 1:1 controller replacement.
Controllers purchased from the Digital Controllers category of our Online Store are designed for new kiln or oven builds or installs for competent DIYers. They include a faceplate and a wiring harness pigtail, but they don’t include any of the other necessary components needed to complete your own installation. A step-by-step guide for building a new kiln or oven is beyond the scope of this FAQ – but we encourage you to do ample research!
(When it comes connecting your controller to a local network, all of our controllers include integrated WiFi other than the original TAP Controller. For the original TAP Controller, you will need to purchase a separate WiFi Dongle in order to connect your control to a local network and use the TAP Kiln Control Mobile app).
