How do I execute firing operations such as Delay Start, Abort Firing, Skip Step, or View Firing Graph?
With TAP, you can perform all of these functions (and more!) with a few taps of your finger on your touchscreen or mobile app. Here's how...
Please note: All instructions for executing these functions from TAP Kiln Control Mobile (where applicable) work for all of our products.
However, the instructions for executing these functions from your controller's touchscreen may not be applicable to TAP&Go, TAP Micro, or the discontinued original TAP Kiln Controller, since they either have limited touchscreen functionality or a different UI.
How to Set a Delay Start:
From The Controller's Touchscreen:
To start a firing, press Start. Select or program your desired schedule and press Start again. You will be prompted if you want to set a delayed start.
If you click "Yes" on the prompt, you'll pull up a keypad where you can type the amount of time you want your kiln to wait before starting the schedule.
Enter this number in HH.MM format (or the amount of hours followed by the amount of minutes) you want your kiln to wait before starting the firing.
If you no longer wish to be shown the option to set a Delay Start, you can turn that off in your settings.
From TAP Kiln Control Mobile:
From TAP Kiln Control Mobile, you can remotely start a firing schedule with a premium subscription. However, from the mobile app, firings start immediately after typing in your confirmation code. You will not have the option to set a Delay Start.
How to Abort a Firing
From The Controller's Touchscreen:
From the Execute Schedule Screen, tap the button on the right labelled Abort Firing and confirm you want to abort your firing. If your kiln controller is showing the temperature in large font, you may need to tap the screen one time first to return to the Execute Screen.
From TAP Kiln Control Mobile:
During an active firing, click the Overview Button to pull up the details of your current schedule. Near the top of the screen you'll see a row of 4 blue buttons under the Firing Progress Bar.
Click the one in the shape of an X (second from the right) and confirm you want to abort the firing.
Since this feature is important for kiln safety, it's free for all users.
How to Skip a Step
From The Controller's Touchscreen:
From the Execute Schedule Screen, tap the button on the right to Skip Step and confirm you want to skip a step. If your kiln controller is showing the temperature in large font, you may need to tap the screen one time first to return to the Execute Screen.
From TAP Kiln Control Mobile:
During an active firing, click the Overview Button to pull up the details of your current schedule. Near the top of the screen you'll see a row of 4 blue buttons under the Firing Progress Bar.
Click the one that looks like a Fast Forward Icon (all the way to the right) and confirm you want to skip a step.
This feature is free for TAP II Pro users but requires a premium subscription for the TAP II Controller.
How to View a Firing Graph
For all of our current kiln control products, you can view your Firing Graphs for free from TAP Kiln Control Mobile.
From the app, just select your kiln. On the bottom of the screen, press Event Logs and then select Firing Logs. Then click the schedule to pull up a Firing Graph.
Here, you'll also have the option to Email All Logs to email your firing logs to your desktop or laptop where you can pull up detailed diagnostics in addition to the graph.
This feature is free for all users.
On the discontinued original TAP Controller, you also have the option to view Firing Graphs from your controller by selecting Menu>Event Logs.
