What is the difference between Alerts and Alarms?

Alerts are user-defined, meaning you set the parameters for an alert to be generated. Alarms are automatically generated by the controller.

Both alerts and alarms generate visual and audible notifications on your controller (as well as push notifications to your phone via the TAP Kiln Control Mobile app) to inform you about the status of your kiln, your controller, and/or the status of your current firing schedule. So, what’s the difference?

Alerts are user-defined, meaning you set the parameters for an alert to be generated. You can use alerts to keep you informed about specific conditions you want to keep track of – such as when a setpoint temperature has been reached or a hold time is about to expire.

Alarms are controller-defined, meaning the controller determines the parameters for an alarm to be generated. Alarms let you know when an unexpected condition has occurred. These include conditions such as the kiln exceeding maximum allowable temperature or failing to cool.
